Motivation Enhancement Therapy

Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) is a structured, time-limited counselling approach designed to strengthen an individual’s internal motivation for change. At Vriddhi Centre for Mental Health, MET is used to help clients resolve ambivalence about behavioural change, particularly in cases involving substance use, alcohol dependence, lifestyle modification, and treatment engagement difficulties. Rooted in principles of Motivational Interviewing, MET focuses on enhancing intrinsic motivation rather than imposing external pressure.

MET is especially effective for individuals who feel “stuck” or uncertain about making changes related to addiction, health behaviours, or psychiatric treatment adherence. Through structured assessment, personalised feedback, and goal-oriented conversations, therapists help clients clarify values, identify discrepancies, and build commitment toward meaningful change. Delivered in a collaborative and non-judgmental framework, MET at Vriddhi supports adolescents and adults in initiating and sustaining long-term behavioural transformation.
